Inclusivity vs Tokenism
As anyone who knows me knows, I take great personal pride in being an inclusive person and artist. I take even more joy from YOU, my clients, in allowing me to share your images to show that boudoir really is for EVERY BODY! I am a very open-minded person and I love getting to showcase humans for their own unique qualities, whether that be the color of their skin, their sexuality (or lackthereof), their creed or beliefs!
For those who don't know me personally, I strive to show you that you too deserve to have beautiful images of yourself! Why do I work so hard to make sure that everyone who peruses my website, group, pages sees someone who resembles themselves? Because I know what it is like to feel out of place and like you don't belong. In a world where there is so much division - I hope to create a safe space, both physically and metaphorically, for you to be yourself!
So what exactly is TOKENISM, well it's defined as "practice of making only a perfunctory or symbolic effort to be inclusive to members of minority groups, especially by recruiting people from underrepresented groups in order to give the appearance of racial or gender equality within a workplace or educational context." In other words, using someone to present a façade of inclusion or diversity.
But what about INCLUSIVITY, well it is defined as "the practice or policy of providing equal access to opportunities and resources for people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized, such as those having physical or intellectual disabilities or belonging to other minority groups." In other words, giving equal opportunities for people no matter their sexuality, ability, creed, color, etc.,
While I am by no means perfect, I personally don't look at human beings as something to be used. I actively look to provide people I care about with things that can help them - most often I will reach out to offer free sessions to those that I feel could use the pampering and love. My love languages are Acts of Service and Gift Giving - and it shows!
Why am I talking about this? Well it was brought to my attention that some people believe I am USING women as tokens. While this is wholly untrue - I invite anyone who feels unrepresented to reach out. My ears are open.
Special feature of my beautiful clients so far this year- 2023 is already amazing and will only get better!
